An examination of the offense–entitlement feedback loop, how cheap offense corrodes a society, and why humility and gratitude remain its only antidotes.
I loved your previous exam of how impersonals impact us on a daily basis. I loved this post as well. I am trying to classify what it is that you do. Is this philosophy? Linguistics? Social science? I have no idea. What, (aside from « Grokking reality ») would you call these posts?
Great question. I’m a memeticist. If genes are the unit that makes up our biological code, memes are the units that make up our cultural code. Those various disciplines you mentioned are all compartmentalizations of culture, but in reality, we experience them all simultaneously. Memetics allows me to draw connections between those dispensary approaches.

This article is long, so I’m skimming and then reading more closely. You handle this topic so skillfully and gave me new ways to think about
“offense”and the ways in which it has impacted our society. Thank you.
My pleasure and thank you!
